ABOUT FMF
Flaviana Matata Foundation (FMF) & DDG
Tanzania
Diamonds Do Good is pivotal in supporting the Flaviana Matata Foundation to empower young girls in Tanzania, including Shinyanga, Tanzania’s diamond-producing community. Through our partnership, we have brought life-changing opportunities to girls who face tremendous barriers such as poverty, child labor, and early marriages.
Together in 2024, DDG and FMF impacted the lives of over 12,000 people, with a particular focus on 8,614 adolescent girls. FMF’s programs, such as scholarships, menstrual health education, and school hygiene improvements, are helping these girls break free from cycles of hardship and realize their dreams.
The scholarship program supports bright, determined girls on their educational journey. Many have overcome incredible odds thanks to this initiative.
The “Donate a Period” program addresses a significant barrier to attending classes adolescent girls face. The program provides essential menstrual supplies, allowing 500 girls to attend school without fearing missing out due to their periods. With the ongoing construction of new latrines, DDG and FMF are creating safe, dignified spaces for girls to learn and thrive.
By addressing these critical needs, DDG and FMF are not only helping girls pursue their education—we are transforming lives, offering hope, and building a brighter future for entire communities.
ABOUT SENTEBALE
Sentebale & DDG
Botswana
In Botswana, Diamonds Do Good supports Sentebale’s Let Youth Lead program (LYL), which supports vulnerable youth living with HIV/AIDS. This partnership provides these young people a platform to advocate for their health, education, and well-being, giving them the confidence and tools they need to overcome challenges and thrive.
A vital component of the program is Radio Positive – a youth-led radio show. Supported by DDG, the show gives young people a powerful voice, discussing important issues like mental health, sexual and reproductive rights, HIV awareness, and life skills. It creates a safe space for them to share experiences, tackle stigma, and encourage others in similar situations. The radio show has had an incredible impact, linking youth to counseling services and fostering deeper community connections. Today, the show reaches 80% of Botswana’s population, resonating not only with young people but also with parents, teachers, and elders who have witnessed the challenges youth with HIV face in their communities.
In addition to Radio Positive, the LYL program includes mental health wellness sessions, school leadership training, and community engagement initiatives designed to nurture self-confidence and leadership. With DDG’s support, young leaders have been able to step up, advocating for themselves and shaping a better future for their communities.
Renaissance School & DDG
Messina, South Africa
Since 2020, Diamonds Do Good has supported the Young Diamantaires in their mission to uplift the Renaissance School in Limpopo, South Africa, near the Venetia Diamond Mine. Initially, the project aimed to build a cafeteria and a library, providing students with essential learning spaces. However, during a 2023 Diamonds Do Good team visit, we discovered the school faced a more significant challenge—a lack of electricity. This deficiency presented a significant educational barrier, especially in critical areas like science and technology.
Recognizing the urgency, Diamonds Do Good, in collaboration with De Beers Group and the Young Diamantaires, shifted our focus to address this pressing need. Together, we’ve committed to funding the completion of a fully equipped science lab and the installation of electricity throughout the school. This crucial infrastructure will empower students with the resources and opportunities they need to pursue science-based education, transforming their learning environment and future generations in the South African mining town.
